Cost depends entirely on the route, not on how serious the alcohol use or drug addiction problem is:

• Free, through the NHS. The county service, community detox where suitable, group and recovery support, counselling, and mutual aid all cost nothing. For most people this is the sensible first step, and it supports long-term recovery just as well as a paid route.
• Private residential in the UK. Indicatively £12,000 to £40,000 a month from published directories, usually paid by the individual or family, sometimes part-covered by private health insurance. Detox-only stays are shorter and cost less.
• Residential treatment abroad. Can come in below a private UK stay for a comparable inpatient residential standard, and is one way to offer treatment away from familiar triggers. Sierra’s recovery programme is £9,900 for 28 days, published, with any hospital detox billed separately.

Most people who look abroad are not chasing sunshine. What the clinical work is	Three group sessions a day five days a week, individual therapy three times a week, and a seventeen-module psychoeducation curriculum. The approach adapts the method of PROMIS Clinics, treating addiction in the United Kingdom since 1986.
Where the limits are	It is not a hospital and not a detox unit. Where a medically supervised detox is clinically needed it is completed in an appropriate medical setting before admission and billed separately. Qualified nurses are part of the team throughout the stay.

Which treatment option is right for you

Start with the free NHS recovery service if you are unsure, if cost is the barrier, or if you want to stay near family and work.
