Alcohol Rehab in Lancashire: Every Option, Compared

Every way to get help with alcohol in Lancashire, from free NHS and council services to private residential rehab and treatment abroad, with real costs and sources, written to be useful even if you never contact us.

You do not have to pay to get help with alcohol in Lancashire. Free, NHS and council-funded treatment is available across the county and is the right first step for most people. Mutual-aid groups such as AA and SMART Recovery are free too. Private residential rehab is faster and more intensive but costs from around £1,000 a week, and a residential stay abroad can cost less than a private UK one. Whatever the substance, drug and alcohol rehab, free rehab services and private rehab are all available in Lancashire, and the right rehab options depend on how severe things are and what support you already have. Below are the main routes, side by side.

If you may be physically dependent, do not stop suddenly

Stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines abruptly can be dangerous if you are physically dependent, and severe withdrawal can cause seizures. Get medical advice before you cut down or stop. In a life-threatening emergency call 999 (or 112), and for urgent non-emergency advice call NHS 111 or speak to your GP.

Who publishes this, and why it matters. This guide is published by Sierra Recovery. We are not based in Lancashire. We are a residential centre in Málaga, Spain, and we appear once below, clearly marked, as one option for people who would consider treatment away from home. Unlike a directory, nothing here is influenced by anyone paying for placement, and where a local option is better for you than we are, we say so.

The alcohol picture in Lancashire

Lancashire is a large county of roughly 1.6 million people, and its treatment map has a quirk worth knowing before you start. Treatment for adults is arranged by councils, not by one national provider, and Lancashire is split three ways. The twelve districts of the county council area, which include Preston, Burnley, Lancaster, Chorley, Pendle and the rest, are covered by services commissioned by Lancashire County Council. Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen are separate unitary authorities and run their own services. In practice this only matters for which door you walk through, and the finders below sort it out for you by postcode. Every one of these services is free at the point of use.

Across the county this adds up to a genuine range of drug and alcohol treatment services in Lancashire: NHS-led addiction treatment services, council-commissioned community support for drug abuse and alcohol misuse, and a small number of private rehab facilities and residential rehab centres offering inpatient treatment programmes. Whichever route you take, most combine practical counselling with behavioural therapies to help with alcohol and drug use, plus holistic support, and build in aftercare so that early progress turns into long-term recovery once the programme ends.

Free drug and alcohol services in Lancashire

Start here, before you consider paying for anything. These services are free, they are local, and for a great many people they are enough on their own. We publish them because a centre that only tells you about its own programme is not giving you the full picture.

AA and NA meetings in Lancashire

Mutual aid meetings are free, they run most days, and there is no waiting list, no referral and no assessment. You can walk into one this week. They work alongside whatever else you choose rather than instead of it, and plenty of people use them and nothing else.

What actually happens at a first meeting

You do not have to speak, and you do not have to give your surname. Most meetings open with a reading, someone shares for a while, and others speak if they want to. It lasts about an hour, and it is free, though a basket goes round for the room hire. Nobody takes a register and nobody will ask you to commit to anything.

An open meeting can be attended by anyone, including family. A closed meeting is for people who think they may have a problem themselves. If the first group does not suit you, the next one along will feel different, because each has its own character. The usual advice is to try three before deciding it is not for you.

We link the official finders rather than print a timetable, because meeting times and venues change and a stale listing sends someone to a locked door. Checked 28 July 2026.

Private residential rehab for people in Lancashire

No private residential rehab based in Lancashire could be independently verified for this guide. A page like this should not list a rehab clinic or treatment centre it cannot stand behind, and it should never present one somewhere else as though it were local. Whether a centre sits inside the county or not, a residential stay almost always means travelling, which is worth remembering when you weigh up treatment abroad.

There are two reliable, honest ways to reach a genuine residential service. The first is through the free NHS or council route above, which can refer you on to residential detox or rehab where that is clinically the right step. The second, if you are paying privately, is to identify a centre yourself and then check it on the Care Quality Commission register, which shows every regulated centre’s current rating and its actual location. Confirm the address before you rely on any claim that a centre is “in Lancashire”.

This applies whether you are looking at a private rehab, an addiction rehab, an alcohol rehab clinic or an inpatient rehab: different rehabs structure detox differently, so ask exactly what a rehab treatment plan includes, and whether it covers therapy and aftercare or only detox. It also applies if you are searching more broadly for alcohol rehab near Lancashire, a drug and alcohol rehab near Lancashire, treatment in Lancashire generally, or simply alcohol and drug rehab across the wider North West: check the centre’s actual address on the CQC register before you rely on any claim that it is local.

What treatment costs

Cost is usually the first real question for anyone facing alcohol addiction or drug addiction, so here it is plainly, and the cost of rehab in Lancashire follows the same national pattern as everywhere else in England.

  • NHS and council-commissioned treatment: free. Assessment, keyworking, community support and, where suitable, community detox cost you nothing.
  • UK private residential rehab: roughly £12,000 to £40,000+ a week, or about £12,000 to £40,000 a month on public UK directory listings, with very little credible under £10,000 a month.
  • Funding routes. Free NHS or council treatment; self-funding for private treatment or private rehab; some private medical insurance policies; and payment plans offered by individual centres.

What moves the private figure is length of stay, whether a medically supervised detox and rehab package is needed and how complex it is, room type, and the setting. The ranges above are indicative, drawn from published UK provider and directory figures. They are not quotations.

Please verify before you decide. Services, waiting times and prices change, and every centre sets its own fees. The figures here are drawn from each provider’s own published information and public directory listings, dated below. Always confirm directly with the service or centre.

Considering residential treatment abroad?

Sierra Recovery, Málaga, Spain

The cortijo and pool at Sierra Recovery in Humilladero, Málaga, Spain.

Most people who look abroad are not chasing sunshine. They are trying to get far enough away from the people, the places and the routine that keep the drinking or the using going, because they have already discovered that stopping while all of that is still fifteen minutes away does not hold. That distance is the whole point, and it is the one thing a clinic near Lancashire cannot give you.

Sierra Recovery is a working farmhouse on forty hectares of olive groves in the Málaga countryside, about forty five minutes from the airport and roughly three hours from most UK airports. It is small, the team is English-speaking, and the same clinicians treat you from the first day to the last. What follows is what that actually buys, stated plainly enough that you can compare it with anything else you are considering.

What matters when comparingSierra Recovery
Is it actually licensedA registered health centre entered in the Registro Andaluz de Centros, Servicios y Establecimientos Sanitarios (the Andalusian register of health centres, services and establishments) under N.I.C.A. 67331, authorised by the Junta de Andalucía. You can look it up yourself on the public register.
What it costs, in full£9,900 for the 28-day residential programme, published on the site up front. All rooms are individual. You get an itemised written quotation before admission.
Who pays whomNo referral fees are paid or accepted, in either direction. Nobody earns a commission for sending you here, which is worth checking about any centre you are comparing.
What the clinical work isThree group sessions a day five days a week, individual therapy three times a week, and a seventeen-module psychoeducation curriculum. The approach adapts the method of PROMIS Clinics, treating addiction in the United Kingdom since 1986.
Where the limits areIt is not a hospital and not a detox unit. Where a medically supervised detox is clinically needed it is completed in an appropriate medical setting before admission and billed separately. Qualified nurses are part of the team throughout the stay.
Who you speak to firstOur admissions team, all of them clinicians, working to the standards set by our clinical director. The assessment is free, and if a service closer to home suits you better, we will say so.
What happens afterwardsAftercare is agreed before you leave: a session every week for a full year, online or in person at the PROMIS clinics in London, which is more than 48 sessions in the twelve months after discharge. A written handover goes to your GP so nothing has to be explained from scratch.

Every figure above is published elsewhere on this site and can be checked. See pricing, regulation and licensing and the programme.

Which option is right for you

Start with the free NHS or council service, or a FRANK postcode search, if you are unsure, if cost is the barrier, or if you want to stay near family and work. These options are offered by the NHS and by councils at no cost, and by AA, NA and SMART Recovery groups in Lancashire alongside whatever else you choose, because peer support helps and costs nothing. Consider private residential rehab in the UK if you need detox and rehab together under one roof, are not fit to fly, or need to stay close to home. If alcohol and drug use sits alongside anxiety, depression or another condition, look for rehab services in Lancashire, or elsewhere, that address addiction and mental health together, since substance abuse and mental health problems are often treated best side by side. Consider treatment abroad only if a private UK stay is out of reach, distance from your usual environment would genuinely help, and you can travel and do not need an immediate hospital detox.

If you have read this far and treatment in Spain still feels like it could fit, the honest next step is a confidential conversation through admissions, where we will tell you plainly if we think a Lancashire or wider UK route, whether that means alcohol rehabilitation, drug rehab, or another rehab programme entirely, would serve you better on the road to being free from addiction.

Questions people ask

Is there free alcohol rehab in Lancashire?

Yes. Every part of Lancashire has a free, NHS and council-commissioned adult drug and alcohol service, and for most people it is the right first step. It offers assessment, a keyworker, community detox where clinically suitable, groups and recovery support, and referral on to residential care when that is needed. Your GP, NHS 111 or the national FRANK service (0300 123 6600, text 82111) can put you in touch with the local team for your area.

Are there private residential rehab centres in Lancashire?

Residential detox and rehab for people in Lancashire happen either by referral through the free NHS and council service, or privately at centres across the North West and beyond, and a residential stay almost always means travelling. Provision and locations change, and no specific private centre could be independently verified for this guide. Check any centre's current registration, rating and exact address on the Care Quality Commission (CQC) register before you rely on it.

How much does private alcohol rehab cost?

As an indicative guide from public treatment directories, private residential rehab in England runs from around £12,000 to £40,000 a month. These are published ranges, not quotations, and every centre sets its own fees. Funding is usually self-payment, private medical insurance or a payment plan. The free NHS and council community treatment costs nothing and is the route for most people.

Is it safe to detox from alcohol at home in Lancashire?

Not if you are physically dependent. Stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines suddenly can cause dangerous withdrawal, including seizures. Do not cut down or stop without medical advice first. Speak to your GP or the local drug and alcohol service, call NHS 111 for urgent advice, or call 999 or 112 in a life-threatening emergency.

Can I go abroad for rehab from Lancashire?

You can. Sierra Recovery is a registered health centre in Málaga, Spain (Junta de Andalucía N.I.C.A. 67331), treating in English, with a 28-day residential programme published at £9,900 and no referral fees. It is a rehabilitation centre rather than a hospital or detox unit, so any medically supervised detox is completed first in an appropriate setting. It suits people for whom a private UK stay is out of reach, who would benefit from distance from their usual environment, and who can travel. If a Lancashire service would serve you better, we will tell you plainly.

From Lancashire, admission can happen within days

Where no medical detox is needed first, the usual sequence is a free assessment, an itemised written quotation, and a flight. Málaga is around three hours from most UK airports. Where a detox is needed it is arranged first and that changes the timing, and we will tell you so at assessment, before you book anything.
