Whether you are struggling with alcohol or drug use, you do not have to pay a large sum to get help in Singapore. The public National Addictions Management Service is subsidised for Singapore citizens and permanent residents, and there is free charity, peer support and crisis support alongside it. Private rehab and residential care cost more, and a residential programme abroad can sometimes cost less than a private rehab centre at home. Below is the real picture, service by service, with the costs and how to access each.
Stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines abruptly can be dangerous if you are physically dependent, and severe withdrawal can cause seizures. The addiction picture in Singapore
Singapore has a well-organised public treatment system led by the Institute of Mental Health, which runs mental health and addiction services alongside charity and peer-led support, and connects into Singapore’s broader mental health services where needed. It also has strict drug laws, which is one reason confidential, medically-led help matters. Voluntary medical treatment for a drug or alcohol addiction, or another behavioural addiction, is delivered through the health system, and the first step for most people wanting to stop drinking or using is a phone call, not a large payment. Treatment options range from brief counselling and group therapy through to residential care, and recovery is rarely only physical, so a holistic view of your physical and mental health, family and daily structure tends to serve people best. Even a severe addiction can be met with clinical support without needing to go private first.
Free and subsidised options in Singapore
Start here. For a great many people struggling with an alcohol and other drug problem, these routes are enough, and they cost little or nothing.
- National Addictions Management Service (NAMS) – the national public service, set up by the Institute of Mental Health. It treats alcohol and drug, gambling, internet and other addictions, with outpatient clinics and an inpatient ward for detoxification and rehabilitation, and links into wider services for mental health disorders. Care is subsidised for Singapore citizens and permanent residents. All Addictions Helpline: 6-RECOVER (6732 6837).
- WE CARE Community Services – a charity and Singapore’s first non-denominational outpatient addiction centre. Most services are free; a session with a counsellor is charged on a sliding scale from about S$30 to S$140 based on your means, and financial hardship does not stop you getting help with alcohol, drugs or gambling problems. - Alcoholics Anonymous Singapore – free peer meetings across the island based on the 12 steps, no referral needed. Helpline 8112 8089. Al-Anon Singapore supports families and friends.
- Narcotics Anonymous Singapore – free peer meetings for anyone with a desire to stop using drugs. Helpline 8535 6561.
- Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) – addiction recovery support and case management for people affected by drug use.
- Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) – free, confidential 24-hour crisis support on 1767, and CareText on 9151 1767, if things feel overwhelming.

The private and residential reality in Singapore
Private rehab costs in Singapore vary widely, because dedicated residential facilities are limited. Singapore’s main inpatient rehab route, for detox and residential rehabilitation, is the public one, through NAMS at the Institute of Mental Health. Beyond that, most private addiction care in Singapore is outpatient care – private psychiatry, psychology and counselling – rather than dedicated residential rehab facilities. Some people who specifically want a private residential treatment stay for alcohol rehabilitation or drug rehabilitation, with a bedroom and a full daily programme, choose to attend rehab abroad for it. No private rehab centre is named here: current status could not be verified for each one, and a rehabilitation centre elsewhere should not be presented as if it were local.
Indicative costs
These are guide figures for the costs of drug and alcohol treatment, to help you plan, not quotations. Every service sets its own fees, and subsidies depend on your residency status and means.
- Public NAMS (outpatient or inpatient): the lowest-cost clinical route for medical detox and rehabilitation, subsidised for Singapore citizens and permanent residents, means-tested. Confirm the current fee with NAMS directly.
- Charity counselling (WE CARE): most services free; counselling roughly S$30 to S$140 a session on a sliding scale.
- Peer support (AA, NA, Al-Anon): free.
- Private outpatient (psychiatry, psychology, counselling): varies widely by provider and session length, and is often tailored to individual needs; ask each clinic for its current fee schedule.

Sierra Recovery is a registered health centre in Humilladero, Málaga, Spain, entered in the Junta de Andalucía health register (N.I.C.A. 67331). We treat in English, and our clinical model is adapted from PROMIS in the UK, in use since 1986; our director is Nerea Encinas Sánchez. The residential programme is £9,900 for 28 days, published and private-room included, using our Regulation Model. We charge no referral fees.
We are a rehabilitation centre, not a hospital or a detox unit. Where a medically supervised detox is needed it is completed elsewhere, in an appropriate medical setting, before admission, and hospital detox is billed separately. Nurses are part of the team on site.

Which option is right for you
There is no single right rehab for everyone: the routes above range from free peer support to fully residential rehab programmes abroad, and the honest starting point is whichever one you will actually use to seek treatment. Start with NAMS if you want subsidised, medically-led treatment in Singapore, or if you may need inpatient detox. WE CARE if you want charity-based outpatient counselling and cost is a concern. AA, NA or Al-Anon alongside whatever else you do, free and any day, and a good source of continued support if you are working toward sobriety and staying sober. A private residential programme abroad – a full drug and alcohol rehab away from home – is worth considering only if you specifically want a residential stay away from home, can travel, and do not need an immediate medically supervised detox – and only after you have weighed it honestly against the local rehab routes above.
